Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill on Thursday announced his run for Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill’s House seat in North Jersey, joining a burgeoning field of Democrats running in the 11th Congressional District.

Gill, a Montclair native and former longtime Democratic staffer, announced his campaign in a video by telling a story about his father Dan, a recently retired teacher whose Black best friend Archie was turned away from a birthday party when they were children because “there weren’t enough chairs.”
